The big three ailments that are responsible for the most deaths in the US are heart disease, cancer and chronic lower respiratory. Here is how to decrease your risk.

Heart disease accounts for nearly one in four deaths making it the nation’s top killer.     however the trend is on the decline - Here are some ways to protect your heart : Move more every day. Exercise, even more than diet is the secret to a healthy heart.   Stop consuming so much sugar because a high sugar diet plays havoc with your cholesterol and also lead to Diabetes.  Loose a few inches of belly fat - exceeding a waist line of 35 inches for women increases your risk of heart disease by almost hundred percent.   Finally know your Numbers -blood pressure 120 / 80, cholesterol below 200mg/dl and fasting much sugar below 100mg/dl.
Cancer occurs when cells in the body go rogue and multiply indiscriminately. Although there is not a set prevention plan, here are some general guidelines: Eat more fruits and vegetables as they are filled with nutrients that fight cancer. Go tobacco free as it contains about 4500 different chemicals that can wreak havoc in almost every organ in the body. A healthy weight lowers the risk of many common cancers. Limit sun exposure to protect from the most frequent form of cancer, skin cancer.
Chronic Lung disease disease is the third leading cause of death in the US particularly emphysema and chronic bronchitis. about 15% of Americans still smoke so going smoke-free will definitely help. Other helpful measures include annual flu shots as it may prevent the start of bronchitis. Keeping the humidity in the house between 40 and 50% will help the air moist. Running a humidifier in the winter when the indoor air is warm and dry and a dehumidifier in the summer when the weather is muggy will help a lot. Periodically have your breathing or blowing capacity checked by a doctor to ensure all is well with the lungs.
